Live To Love UK Launched in September 2010

Live to Love UK was officially launched on Friday 17th September at a gala dinner in the gracious surroundings of the Royal Society in London. Viscount and Viscountess Cowdray, film and TV stars Aamir Khan , Michelle Yeoh and Ruby Wax, Take That's Mark Owen and Jason Orange and film directors Kiran Rao, Ed Bye and Glen Goei were joined by some of London's foremost entrepreneurs for the first event of  L2L UK, which was also a  fundraiser to restore the recently devastated Druk White Lotus School.

After His Holiness's talk, Aamir Khan accepted conferment as the first Ambassador of Live to Love International and His Holiness presented Mr Khan with a commemorative plaque and a L2L T- shirt. For Aamir it was a case of 'been there, done that and got the T-shirt! '  as the school featured in the blockbuster film 'The 3 Idiots', which he starred in, and he was one of the first to visit the area after the recent mudslides to give support.

Viscount and Viscountess Cowdray, longtime patrons and supporters of the school, then graciously accepted becoming patrons of Live to Love International.

The guests were a diverse mix of nationalities and backgrounds but the atmosphere was as if a group of longstanding friends had met together.  The enjoyment of the guests was reflected by their generous donations and their desire to linger and chat late into the evening.

During His Holiness's visit, there was also an opportunity for live radio interviews. Click here to listen to the interview that was broadcast on Radio 4's Saturday Live programme on September 18th.

We are deeply appreciative that His Holiness participated in these unique events and we look forward to developing Live to Love UK in the coming weeks and months. Our goal is to create pledge groups of active, compassionate citizens who will really help people in need within their local communities and also contribute to key international projects.

About Live To Love

Our vision:

It’s quite a simple one: to help create a compassionate and sustainable society in which people of all ages can actively participate in everyday acts of kindness, compassion and generosity.

We believe that reaching out to connect and help others enriches all our lives and will help to build stronger, happier communities within our cities, towns and villages both nationally and internationally.

Who we are:

Live to Love is a global network of secular, non-profit making organisations whose aim is to strengthen communities through the provision of education, medical services, relief aid, the preservation of culture and heritage and the promotion of environmental sustainability within society.

Live to Love UK (charitable status applied for) is the autonomous UK member of this global movement.

What we do:

We build and develop dynamic networks of active, compassionate citizens who pledge to give and receive acts of kindness. These can range from ordinary acts of neighbourliness within their own local communities to formal volunteering work in international initiatives.

We also provide financial and practical support to global disaster programs and to key international projects such as the Druk White Lotus School in Ladakh, India.

How we do it:

There are no distinctions of faith, ethnicity, nationality, class, age or gender.

Active participation is vital. Whilst raising money is an extremely important part of charitable work, what sets Live to Love apart from many other organisations is the encouragement of compassion in action, not just compassion through financial donations.

We encourage our volunteers to become valued members of a thriving local network full of new contacts and opportunities The possibilities are infinite. We set up our own projects within the community and work in partnership with others, in both the voluntary and public sectors.
